Ode to Marie

Oh! Marie to have known you would have been bliss

To have walked with you in Paris divine

Watching you tear down the intellectual parti pris

That women should tow the matrimonial line.

You never noticed what had been done

But only saw what was yet to do

In physics and chemistry you were never outdone

With Pierre in a scientific pas de deux

But your greatness was not defined by other men

Rather you were the spark from which light came

On a journey that introduced isotopes and radium

Starting in Warsaw to a French sanatorium

Your refusal to stop was what made you brave

Yet via radiation it led to your grave

Oh Marie!

  1. Loved this!
Not many can accept a woman’s contribution to science. And writing a poem on her is the ultimate respect you can give to a woman scientist. Shows your broadmindedness.
