A New Old Memory

Now open your eyes to see an old face,

An old face that somehow seems new.

Straight to the point, and yet without a map

To guide you away from dead ends.

An old face that somehow seems new

Caught in a mirror to reflect your thoughts,

To guide you away from dead ends,

Which surface each time you are sleeping

Caught in a mirror to reflect your thoughts;

Memories that seemed far away,

Which surface each time you are sleeping.

Never alone, you’ll not escape.

Memories that seemed far away,

Straight to the point, and yet without a map.

Never alone, you’ll not escape,

Now open your eyes to see an old face.

This is a pantoum inspired by a New Scientist article about new memories being implanted in mice while they sleep, and what that could mean for us.
